Built-in tick protection you don’t have to think about
Repels ticks where they climb first – lasts through 70 washes
Watch what happens when a tick touches these socks
When ticks come into contact with permethrin, it affects their nervous system – they become paralyzed, fall off, and often die.
Ticks can’t fly or jump – they crawl from the ground up.
Shoes and socks are your first line of defense.

How do they work?
We've partnered with Insect Shield® to use their EPA-registered permethrin textile technology in our socks.
(The US Army treats all combat uniforms issued to soldiers with Insect Shield’s built-in treatment, too).
The active ingredient (0.52% permethrin) is bonded directly to the fabric fibers of each sock during manufacturing and lasts through 70 washes, unlike DIY permethrin spray that sits on top of fabric and lasts around 6 washes.
They’re proven to repel ticks (including those which may carry Lyme disease), as well as mosquitoes, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges (no-see-ums).
The built-in repellency is invisible and odorless – they look, feel, and smell like regular socks, except they repel ticks.
You can’t tell it’s there, but the ticks can.
A University of Rhode Island study found that people wearing permethrin-treated shoes and socks were 73.6 times less likely to have a tick bite 🤯
FAQ
Do they really repel ticks?!
Yes!
We use Insect Shield® technology, which is EPA-registered and proven to repel ticks (including those which may carry Lyme disease), as well as mosquitoes, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges (no-see-ums).
The active ingredient (0.52% permethrin) is bonded directly to the fabric fibers – unlike sprays that sit on top of fabric and wash off faster.
Is permethrin safe for humans?
We use Insect Shield®’s EPA-registered textile technology, which has an EPA safety rating of Category IV – the highest safety level awarded.
Can they be worn around cats?
Yes.
While permethrin can be harmful to cats in liquid form, Insect Shield’s repellency is so tightly bound to the fabric fibers – in such minimal amounts – that it does not pose a risk to cats, even in multi-pet households.
Do Tick Socks replace bug spray?
No – tick prevention works best as a layered approach. There is no one single solution, unfortunately 😔
Tick Socks are an easy, set-and-forget layer of protection for where ticks crawl first (yep, they crawl from the ground up, or latch on from grass).
In addition to wearing Tick Socks, you could also try:
- Using bug spray on exposed skin
- Tucking your pants into your socks
- Putting your clothes in the dryer before you head inside
- Doing nightly tick checks
- Keeping tick tweezers handy
How does the built-in tick protection work?
Insect Shield’s proprietary permethrin treatment is bonded directly to the fabric fibers of each sock during manufacturing.
The protection is invisible and odorless, and lasts through 70 washes. (Unlike DIY permethrin spray that lasts around 6 washes).
You can’t tell it’s there – but the ticks can.
Do they repel anything besides ticks?
Yes – they repel ticks, mosquitoes, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges (no-see-ums).
That said, Tick Socks are designed first and foremost for tick protection – especially for everyday outdoor life in tick-heavy areas.
How does permethrin work?
When ticks come into contact with permethrin, it affects their nervous system – they become paralyzed, fall off, and often die.
Because the permethrin is bonded to the fabric fibers (not sitting on your skin like bug spray), the treatment remains effective without you having to apply anything yourself.
Who recommends permethrin-treated clothing?
Permethrin-treated clothing is recommended by many trusted organizations, including:
- The American Academy of Family Physicians
- The World Health Organization (WHO)
-National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety
- The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Who can wear them?
Everyone.
Tick Socks use Insect Shield’s EPA-registered textile treatment, which is approved for use by the whole family with no age restrictions.
The treatment is bonded directly to the fabric fibers (not applied to skin), and has an EPA safety rating of Category IV – the highest safety level awarded.
What do they smell & feel like?
Tick Socks feel and smell just like your other clothes.
The Insect Shield protection is tightly bonded to the fabric fibers – you can’t tell it’s there, but the ticks can.
How do they compare to DIY permethrin sprays?
DIY permethrin spray sits on top of the fabric fibers and typically lasts around 6 washes.
We use Insect Shield's factory-bonded permethrin treatment – it's built into the fabric fibers, and is proven to last through 70 washes.
How do they compare to bug sprays?
Unlike topical bug sprays, the repellent:
- can't be overused
- doesn't absorb into your skin
- can't be inhaled or swallowed
- isn't harmful to your eyes
- doesn't come off when you sweat
- doesn't require reapplication
Because the repellent is bonded to the fabric (not applied to skin), there’s also nothing to transfer onto hands, furniture, or kids.
They’re not a replacement for bug sprays on exposed skin – just an easier layer of protection for the first place ticks crawl.
Does the repellent absorb into skin?
No.
Tick Socks use Insect Shield’s factory-bonded treatment, where the active ingredient (0.52% permethrin) is bonded directly to the fabric fibers, unlike permethrin sprays that sits on top of fabric fibers or bug sprays that are applied directly to your skin.
Because of this built-in process, the permethrin does not transfer to, or absorb into, your skin or the environment.
What are they made from?
Tick Socks are made from a breathable, lightweight bamboo blend that’s soft, moisture-wicking, and comfortable for everyday wear.
Fabric composition by color:
- White: 73% bamboo, 20% polyester, 5% nylon, 2% spandex
- Green: 73% bamboo, 20% polyester, 5% nylon, 2% spandex
- Blue: 73% bamboo, 20% polyester, 5% nylon, 2% spandex
- Yellow: 65% bamboo, 23% polyester, 10% nylon, 2% spandex
They feel and smell just like normal socks, except they have built-in tick protection.
Where are they made?
Our socks are knitted in China, home to the world’s largest bamboo plantations.
After knitting, they’re sent to Insect Shield’s state-of-the-art facility, where the tick-repellent treatment is bonded directly to the fabric fibers.
They’re then returned to our manufacturer for finishing and packaging before being shipped to you.
(We absorb all tariff costs so there are no surprises at checkout).
How do I wash them?
Just wash them like your regular socks, separately from other clothing.
The built-in tick protection is bonded to the fabric and lasts through 70 washes.
Do not dry clean. (But who’s dry-cleaning socks anyway?)
